I don’t like icons on my desktop. It’s partially because of operating memory advantages, but mostly because I feel disheveled when there’s lots of clutter. (Random: I discovered that there are other “stress-cleaners” in the world. Leave a comment if you’re one, too. We should form a club!)
Anyway, so here was the wallpaper on my desktop for the last 6 months or so. Surprisingly, it works. I use RescueTime, too. There’s a free version and it’s pretty amazing. It ranks my productivity on a per-app, per-site basis and shows me my attention trends over time (Anyone else a CMD+Tab addict?). The data outputs are pretty amazing… However, with the beginning of a very busy wedding season, it was time for a change of scenery.

If you were to glance at my list of Facebook friends today around 8am-12pm, the majority of my wedding photographer friends (on the east coast anyway) posted something on their status about the start of the 2012 wedding season. (If not this week, then definitely next Saturday!) Most of us have spent the winter season sharpening our photographic skills at conferences (WPPI, Inspire, After Dark, Mystic) and via our own editorial shoots, acquiring new pieces of gear, and refining every square inch of our business. I feel refreshed and am incredibly excited. I had a few amazing weddings earlier in the year , but the awesome craze starts now! :)
I spent the last week finishing up my spring cleaning which essentially is the joyous chore of swapping out snowsuits for skirts and tshirts. :) Something I found brought me back to memory lane: my extra large space saver bag of suits. Part of me thought, “I spent SO much money on these suits”. Another part of me thought, “I barely recognize these anymore”. My, how life has changed… On my first project in my consulting career, I struggled with an interesting business concept: optics. A large majority of my work was about impressing the right people – being seen doing and heard saying the right things at the right time. It was about engaging in the right projects to network with the right individuals. Don’t get me wrong – These were the most brilliant people I’ve ever met. I loved the job, but it was exhausting. I remembered everything I affiliated with these clothes… all the emotions – specifically unfulfillment.
Life is too short to struggle and stress about anything that isn’t important to me. I’ve made the choice to devote my life to things I believe in: genuine love, the power of expression, personal fulfillment.
With that said, I am so so so ridiculously excited for the 2012 wedding season. :) I changed my wallpaper to a fun quote I saw on Pinterest.

This photograph of Catherine and Bill makes me feel warm and fuzzy…
